About the First Nations Carbon Toolkit
What is this toolkit and who is it for?
High-quality forest carbon projects that are led by First Nations can be a path towards community land management and sustainable revenue. Communities should be equipped with the information needed to evaluate potential carbon projects, including, creating their own project where the community is in control of all aspects of it or saying “no” to a project proposed by a third-party company that does not align with the community’s interest and values.
This toolkit is meant to provide information to First Nations interested in learning more about forest carbon offset projects, particularly ones based on protecting intact forests and restoring forests degraded by logging.
In this toolkit, “project” refers to a set of activities that occurs within a set boundary that aims to reduce or remove emissions and generate carbon emissions benefits that can be used to counterbalance emissions from elsewhere.
We believe that high-quality forest carbon projects that are led by First Nations can be a path towards community land management and sustainable revenue.

Module 5: Planning Your Carbon Project
This toolkit currently has five learning modules that are designed to provide nations with the fundamentals of a forest carbon offset project, as well as an overview of the legal and policy landscape in B.C.
